Is This Car Ready for the Spotlight?

J.D. Power® Edge Certified Pre-Owned* Program provides detailed criteria for what qualifies as a Certified Pre-Owned* vehicle. Completing these steps in the inspection process not only prepares the vehicle for sale, but also showcases the high standards designed to attract more customers to J.D. Power® Edge Certified Pre-Owned* Vehicles and reinforces the trust consumers have in the brand and your dealership.

We Need the Sticker!

Window stickers allow customers to quickly identify vehicle features while reinforcing the J.D. Power® Edge Certified Pre-Owned* Program name. Learn how to print window stickers for your vehicles using the Window Sticker Application.

Vehicle Preparation

Ensuring vehicle inventories are properly prepared and maintained helps increase consumer confidence. The visual appeal of the vehicles is paramount in building consumer trust, as is consistent presentation of items like the window sticker and buyers guide. This confidence in the J.D. Power® Edge Certified Pre-Owned* Program is vital to the ongoing success of the program at the dealership

Presenting the Vehicle

To ensure the program is viewed by the customer as a value and a benefit, it needs to be presented properly. As the salesperson walks the customer around the vehicle, they will use the window sticker to point out the features of the vehicle, including the 165-point inspection. This is the foundation upon which you build value in the vehicle for the customer.

Inspection Guidelines

The J.D. Power® Edge Certified Pre-Owned* Program inspection process can be broken up into two different categories. They are what you are required to inspect and what J.D. Power strongly recommends. View details to review the items that need to be inspected in each category.

Detailing and Reconditioning

After the initial detailed 165-point inspection, the Service technician identifies the areas of the vehicle that require detailing and reconditioning and makes recommendations for the Service Department to work on the vehicles to meet the J.D. Power® Edge Certified Pre-Owned* Program standards.

There are four stages of detailing required to ensure that standards are met:

1. Wet Bay Process

2. Interior Detailing

3. Paint Restoration

4. Final Inspection

Details are in the J.D. Power® Edge Certified Pre-Owned* Program Manual.
